Adding a link to Slice as a Canvas External Tool

Following the set up of the Slice App by your Canvas Administrator, it can be used as either an Assignment or Module.

To add an assignment,

  1. After logging into your LMS and locating where you want to add the Slice link, click the + Assignment button

  2. Enter the name for the activity and any description



  3. In the Submission Type section, choose External Tool from the first drop down menu.

  4. Under "Enter or find an External Tool URL" click Find.

  5. On the Configure External Tool pop up, click Slice (or similar as named by your Canvas Administrator).



  6. The URL input should automatically change, and it should start with https://slice-lti.best.edu.au. Delete the content and replace it with the URL to the Slice image, layer, question or Collection that you wish to share.

  7. Change the URL manually by adding -lti after https://slice
    https://slice.best.edu.au... to https://slice-lti.best.edu.au... for the LTI 1.1 tool and to https://slice-lti1p3.best.edu.au... for the LTI 1.3 tool

  10. Decide whether you want the activity to load in a new tab and then click Select.

  11. On the Assignments set up page, scroll to the bottom and hit Save.

  12. Your item should be visible. You and your students can now login to your existing accounts or create a new account.

 

Using the tool

If it is your first time using the Slice external tool you should see two buttons:

  1. Login to BEST Network
  2. Create new BEST Network account

For all subsequent uses of the Slice external tool you will be automatically shown the content.

Login to BEST Network

If you already have a BEST Network account click Login to BEST Network. Enter your email address and password in the boxes provided and click Save. If successful you should proceed to view the content. An error message will be shown if your username or password is incorrect.

 

Create new BEST Network account

If you have not set up a BEST Network account or you have forgotten your password, use Create new BEST Network account.

  1. Enter your email in the box provided. A verification code will be sent to your email.
  2. Enter the verification code in the box provided
  3. Set a password ensuring it has at least eight characters including an uppercase character, lowercase character and a number.
  4. Check the box to indicate you have read the terms and conditions and click Sign Up.
  5. You will proceed to view the content.
