Create an LMS Connection for Moodle

Set up of Slice as an external tool in Moodle is accessible only to members with the Institution Admin and Subscription Owner roles.

  1. Log into account.best.edu.au
  2. Navigate to the Connect LMS tab
  3. If a connection has already been set up it will appear in the list. If you need to create a new Connection click the Add new connection button.
  4. Select your LMS from the List provided
  5. Provide a name for the connection
  6. Click Generate new key

 

Add an external tool to Moodle

You may need support from your Learning Management team to add the connection as a site wide pre-configured tool. The following steps may differ slightly depending on your instance of Moodle.

  1. Open and log into your institutions Moodle site.
  2. Navigate to the site administration/institution settings section of Moodle.
  3. Locate External tool > Manage tools.
  4. Click "Add tool manually"
  5. Provide a name for the tool that will be self-explanatory to your staff (e.g. "Slice" or "BEST Network Slice")
  6. Add the Tool URL (Launch URL), Consumer Key and Shared Secret as provided in the Connect LMS area of best.edu.au
  7. Set LTI version to 1.0/1.1
  8. Check the box for Supports Deep Linking/Content Selection
  9. Under the Services menu for Tool Settings select "Use this service"
  10. Under the Privacy menu set Share launcher's name with tool to "Always"
  11. Click "Save Changes" and the LTI tool is set up.
