What are public layers?
BEST Network members have created thousands of annotations layers for use with students in classroom activities. Public layers are annotation layers that academic members have chosen to share with the BEST Network community.
Public layers are available for use as is by members or can be duplicated and edited for new audiences or purposes.
Categorising public layers
Annotation layers are created with different audiences in mind. To reflect the complexity of a layer, the system prompts a choice of audience when a user shares a layer publicly.
Layers are categorised as basic, advanced or specialist.
- Basic annotations are created for secondary school or early tertiary levels.
- Advanced annotations are for later tertiary levels.
- Specialist annotations are those for diagnostic specialists or research purposes.
These categories are considered a guide and layers can be used outside their intended audience, though titles and descriptions may require adjustment at the users discretion.
