Annotations made by BEST Network members are visible only to their creator until a link to the layer is shared or the layer is made public. The purpose of the annotation tool is to provide not only a teaching and learning resource that can complement tutorials, presentations and practical classes, but also a means by which individuals can have a discussion about an image.

Sharing a layer

Simply copy the URL on your browser to share your current view and annotations. The URL will remember the current zoom level and any selections that have been made.

Before you share, ensure that you have allowed anyone with the link to view the layer via the Layer Settings.

Read more about sharing the Slice URL here.

Sharing Public Layers

BEST Network academic members have the option to make layers publicly available. To share a layer publicly, while viewing a layer:

  1. Click the dropdown arrow next to the layer title and choose EDIT
  2. Review the title and description fields and make any required changes
  3. Scroll to the end of the panel to the Share Layer area
  4. Click the check box to Make this layer public
  5. Select the intended audience for the layer referring to the guidelines provided
  6. Click DONE

When you return to the All Layers list, your layer will have moved to the public layers area.

Categorising Public Layers

There are three categories for public layers. Layer owners select the category based on the audience they originally intended the layer to be used by.

Basic: annotations for secondary school and early tertiary levels
Advanced: annotations for later tertiary levels
Specialist: annotations for diagnostic specialist/research
